I experimented with clay at a very young age and found that very first piece I made by method of a pinch pot to be unforgettable. As a teenager, I thought that was totally cool. Although it was not the prettiest form, after I applied the green glaze and it was fired, that pot stood out shiny and beautiful in my eyes and it made me happy to see what could be accomplished with a few coils of clay and a little glaze.
Many years passed until I would once again be re-united with the clay! I remember taking books out at the library to read about pottery-making. It all seemed so complicated. I have always enjoyed experimenting with different media, like jewelry making, Precious Metal Clay, polymer clay, glass bead making, and wire beaded crosses, but not like I have enjoyed experimenting with the clay.
One day I decided to take a class that unbeknownst to me would completely consume my very existence. After that one class back in 2005, I have taken many classes and have created my own backyard studio so that I can throw clay anytime that little light bulb in my mind sees a piece I need to create right then and there.
The wonderful manipulation of the clay within my hands gives me a feeling of being in touch with the earth in a way I cant explain. It is that craving to create and explore that keeps me going back to the clay time after time.
